The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Comission recalled millions of Fabuloso Multi-Purpose cleaning products on Wednesday due to a risk of bacteria contamination.
Fabuloso manufacturer, the Colgate Palmolive Company, recalled some products containing Pseudomonas species bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Pseudomonas fluorescens, which are environmental organisms found widely in soil and water. People with weakened immune systems, external medical devices, or underlying lung conditions who are exposed to the bacteria face a risk of serious infection that may require medical treatment.
The company said it recalled 4.9 million bottles produced from December 14, 2022 through January 23, 2023 in the United States and about 56,000 in Canada. According to the company, about 3.9 million of those bottles were never released for sale.
As of the recall, no incidents or injuries have been reported.
According to the company, the bacteria can enter the body if inhaled, through the eyes, or through a break in the skin. However, people with healthy immune systems are usually not affected by the bacteria.
The recall includes several types of Fabuloso Multi-Purpose Cleaners that were produced from Dec. 14 to Jan. 23 and sold online, including Amazon, and at major retailers such as Dollar General and Walmart.
A list of the UPC and lot codes of the recalled products can be found at www.Fabulosorecall.com.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Comission, consumers should not empty out the bottle before disposal. Consumers are advised to keep the product in its container and dispose of it in the trash.
Colgate-Palmolive says it will offer refunds or replacements to consumers who submit a picture of the product's UPC and lot codes.
