Adults in California may schedule an appointment for themselves for a booster shot via MyTurn, the state’s updated vaccine appointment system.
Adults 18 years or older are eligible for a booster shot as long as they have met the 6-month original vaccination series time period for the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine, or it has been at least 2 months since their Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Selections on which preferred brand for your booster shots are available. Individuals may select “no preference”.
California has a more generous booster vaccination than the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as it became one of several states to expand booster doses to all fully vaccinated adults. The state of California pushed for more adults to get their booster shots as Gov. Gavin Newsom warned last week at a Nov.10 press conference of an anticipated winter surge.
Last week, California’s Public Health Officer Tomás Aragón sent a letter to local health officials and providers saying they should allow patients to “self-determine their risk of exposure” although federal health officials recommend limiting booster doses to those "at risk".
Appointments can be made on the MyTurn webpage or by calling the Coronavirus COVID-19 Response hotline at (833)-422-4255 to find a walk-in vaccine clinic near you.
