A bail bond agent was shot in the face Friday in El Cajon while responding to a warrant suspect inside a vacant business.

Jesse Nunez, a bail bond agent with Fugitive Warrants, along with another bail bond agent, arrived at a vacant business at around 3:51 p.m. at the 300 block of West Lexington Avenue looking for a wanted individual.

According to the El Cajon Police (ECPD), Nunez got into a confrontation with an unassociated person who took out a handgun. The bail bond agents shot a taser at the person and tackled the person when Nunez said he was shot in the face.

The other bail agent shot his taser at the suspect, and both agents were able to leave the building.

The shooting comes nearly a year after another partner from Fugitive Warrants was shot responding to a call in Chula Vista.

The agent suffered non-life-threatening injuries after the bullet entered near his cheek and exited near his ear, ECPD said. Nunez was treated at a local hospital and was released Friday evening.

The suspect has an active felony probation violation arrest warrant and was booked in San Diego County Central jail. The warrant suspect is still at large as he was able to escape before police arrived.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information on this incident can contact the El Cajon Police Department at (619) 579-3311.

No other information was available.
