The California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) released the third round of Middle-Class Tax Refund debit cards for the week of Nov. 20.
The Middle-Class Tax Refund (MTCR) debit cards will be mailed through Dec. 3 to GSS I or II check recipients with last names beginning with N-V. It may take up to two weeks from the issue date for the debit cards to be received by mail.
The California FTB said about 90 percent of direct deposits were issued in October. It is expected that about 95% of all MCT payments—direct deposit and debit cards combined — will be issued by the end of this year.
The Franchise Tax Board is now sharing updates on how much money has been given out through the program on the MCTR website. As of Nov. 11, the Middle-Class Tax Refund has benefitted 17,259,498 California taxpayers and their dependents.
As of Nov. 11, the FTB has issued 6,739,880 MCTR direct deposit payments and mailed out 2,556,729 debit cards for a total amount of $5,053,764,350.
The refunds are a part of a nearly $12 billion relief effort approved by lawmakers. State officials estimate about 23 million Californians will receive a payment. How much your receive depends on your income, filing status, and household size.
