Carolina Chavez is running to represent District 1 on Chula Vista City Council during the Nov. 8 General Election.

Chavez, a longtime resident with a career in economic development, healthcare, and international trade, is running against Marco Contreras, a local business owner. She did not respond to requests for an interview.

She currently serves as Director of Business and Economic Policy for San Diego Council President Pro Tem Stephen Whitburn. She has previously served as Chair of the International Business Association for the San Diego Chamber of Commerce and the Director of Binational Affairs, Public Relations, and the SIMNSA Foundation at SIMNSA Health Care.

According to Chavez's website, her “background in journalism, service non-profits, and cross-border relations have guided her to take this next step in public service,”.

Her priorities include diversifying and attracting more economic development, tackling the debilitating housing crisis in the city, and developing and expanding job centers.

“I am running to be your next Councilmember in District 1 because I’m confident that my background and experience make me the best candidate to represent District 1 in City Hall. As your Councilmember, I will prioritize the quality of our neighborhoods and ensure they are strong, clean, and safe. With your support, I will fight for efficient brush and fire management across the City. My years of advocacy will ensure that the economic development needs in our City are elevated,” she wrote on her website.
