Calvary San Diego Church in Chula Vista urged volunteers to help bring Ukrainian families arriving in increasing numbers to the Tijuana airport.

"Right now, we need all the help we can get from drivers to help us bring families from the Tijuana airport to the (San Ysidro and Otay) border and from the border to our church," at 1771 East Palomar Street, Pastor Phil Metzger said.

"Also, if you are a Russian or Ukrainian speaker, we need you extremely urgently," he said.

The pastor explained that more Ukrainians arrive at the border every day who need help.

"Just imagine, you have to flee to the other side of the world and get to a place where you don't speak the language and don't know the people," he said.

Calvary Church has become a support center for Ukrainian families arriving from the border and is the closest support center to the ports of entry for now.

The pastor said that because of the church's location, word has spread among fleeing Ukrainian families that it is a place where they can help them after crossing the border.

"For this reason, we receive many calls from people who communicate because they come to the border and ask for our help," he said.
