The Chula Vista City Council approved a contract extension for the city manager through June 2025 with a 5% annual increase after a performance evaluation.

The City council approved the contract of Maria Kachadoorian as City Manager on June 9, which was set to expire on June 9, 2023. During a Sept. 27 meeting, the city council approved extending that contract until June 20, 2025.

“We have a great city manager and we are very privileged that she choose Chula Vista. We are getting things done because of her amazing leadership and her amazing staff,” Chula Vista Mayor Mary Casillas Salas said.

The contract extension comes after the council convened in an Aug. 9 closed session to evaluate Kachadoorian’s performance to consider terms for a possible extension.

According to a city staff report, the terms for a contract amendment that were prepared and agreed to by the city manager include a contract extension until June 30, 2025, with 5% salary increases to be implemented d on the pay period that includes June 20, 2023 and June 20, 2024.

The city staff reports noted that the newly inked contract also provides a standard executive severance package in the event of early termination equivalent to 9 months of salary and health benefits.
