A knife-wielding man was arrested by the Chula Vista Police Department Tuesday morning and matched the description of a bank robbery suspect earlier in the day.

A Wells Fargo bank employee at 826 Third Avenue called the CVPD at approximately 12 p.m reporting a robbery carried out by a White man in his fifties with a large knife, wearing a white t-shirt. According to the department, the suspect fled the area northbound with an undisclosed amount of cash.

As the department received the call, officers were already responding to a separate call of a man with a knife less than two blocks away from the bank robbery in the area of Third Avenue and Moss Street. According to the department, one responding officer located the man in front of the Jack in the box at 802 Third Avenue, about 500 feet away from the Well Fargo Bank.

Officers detained the 58-year-old man, later identified as Robert Corcillius of San Diego, without any incident. Witnesses of the bank robbery identified Corcillus as the suspect.

Cornelius was arrested for robbery and booked into San Diego County Jail. The knife he was carrying is believed to be the same knife used in the robbery and was collected by officers.
