The Chula Vista Police Department publicly identified the 46-year-old man who died following a physical altercation with Seven Mile Casino security guards in Chula Vista.
On Jan.17, Jorge Flores got into a struggle with security personnel at Seven Mile Casino on Bay Boulevard about 8:45 p.m.While officers were responding to the casino, the patron fighting with security lost consciousness and then stopped breathing, according to authorities.
Paramedics perform life-saving measures on Flores by the time police arrive at the scene. CVPD Lt. Dan Peak said he was transported to a local area hospital, and despite resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced deceased.
Authorities say security recognized Flores from a previous incident on Jan.15, where he assaulted security and was no longer allowed in the casino. Violation of this condition would result in his arrest.
Flores was asked to leave, but returned a short time later, assaulting security while trying to get back into the casino. According to Peak, security attempted to detain Flores and fell to the ground.
"Flores continued to struggle with security and then lost consciousness,” Peak said.
The CVPD announced the altercation on Jan.18 but withheld his identity pending notification to the family.
The department's Crimes of Violence Unit continues to investigate the incident and is working to determine all of the circumstances of the case. No arrests have been made but the security staff involved in the incident has been identified and is cooperating with the investigation.
