Officials in Chula Vista are reminding drivers of a temporary closure on the State Route 125 Toll Road to allow crews to install and test new tolling equipment on the southbound off-ramp at Exit8/East H Street.

The closure began at 7 a.m. on Feb.27 and is scheduled to run through 7 a.m. on March 17, according to the region’s leading transportation agency, the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG).

According to SANDAG, the new tolling equipment is one of the steps to enhance technology along the SR 125 Toll Road and I-15 Express Lanes.

“Closing lanes and diverting traffic allow crews to safely complete work throughout the length of the project,” the agency said in a statement.

Detour signage will be in place to guide drivers during the closure. The agency said the closure may reopen early if work progresses ahead of schedule.

SANDAG began upgrading tolling equipment on SR 125 in late 2021 and anticipates completion by the end of 2023
