A man died early Tuesday morning in a fiery crash after being ejected due to a collision on Interstate 805 in North Park, the California Highway Patrol reported.

A 24-year-old man dove southbound near University Avenue at approximately 2:15 a.m. when he lost control of a Toyota Sedan. Authorities report the Chula Vista man lost control of his vehicle for unknown reasons.

According to CHP officer Jessie Matias, the vehicle struck a center-divider wall after veering to the left. The impact of the collision ejected the man onto the roadway. The vehicle then burst into flames.

The Chula Vista resident died on the scene, CHP officers announced.
Authorities are withholding the name of the 24-year-old name pending family notification.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision, and no other injuries have been reported.

According to Matias, all southbound lanes of the freeway were blocked in the area during that time. The lanes reopened approximately two hours later at 4:30 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities said it is unknown whether the motorist was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of the collision.
