Chula Vista native Paul Arriola is headed to Dallas to join the city's Major League Soccer team.

On Wednesday, FC Dallas officially announced the acquisition of Paul Arriola for the upcoming MLS season, in a trade from D.C. United that would come at an expense of $1.5 million in General Allocation Money for 2022, and up to $500,000 also in GAM next year.

The Mater Dei High School alumni has two CONCACAF Gold Cup titles as a member of the United States Men's National Team. And at the professional club level, Arriola played up to 116 matches for the Xolos of Club Tijuana in the Mexican league before eventually moving to his native country and joining D.C. United, where he appeared in 89 games, securing 20 goals and 16 assists in the nation's capital.

FC Dallas have released a statement regarding this big move for the club, praising the astonishing resume the Chula Vista-native has written for his career up until this point.

“To have a player like Paul Arriola come to FC Dallas is really an amazing thing,” FC Dallas President Dan Hunt stated. “Very few players have a resume like he does at the age of 26. He’s also an incredible locker room guy. You don’t get to captain the U.S. national team if you’re not of the highest caliber and a great professional who works hard and has the admiration of his teammates and the coaching staff. We’re thrilled to welcome Paul to Dallas.” he added.

Arriola, 26, has already expressed his excitement involving his trade to D.C., stating that this is going to be a great stepping stone for his already impressive career.

“I’m super excited to be joining FC Dallas and starting a new journey with this club,” said Arriola on Wednesday. “Coming to Dallas will be a great step in my career as it will continue to help me build towards my professional goals. I’m looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and I can’t wait to get to work with my new teammates and staff." he added.
