San Diego’s signature pop culture event attracting thousands of visitors every year is back this weekend after a two-year hiatus driven by the coronavirus pandemic. 

Fans of comic books, movie memorabilia, and all things pop culture without a badge should not fret. There are fun and accessible events that will take place in San Diego throughout the week. 

Here are some ways you can participate without a badge: 

Nintendo

From Thursday, July 21-23 from 10 am-6 pm daily and Sunday, July 24 from 10 am-4 pm, fans will be allowed to demo new games like Nintendo Switch™ Sports, Mario Strikers™: and Battle League, and Kirby™ and the Forgotten Land at Petco Park. 

Star Trek

The Wrath of P’Khan Anniversary Ice Cream from the Coolhaus Ice Cream Truck reminds fans revenge is a dish best served cold—ice cold. Fans can celebrate the 40th anniversary of “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” with free Coolhaus ice cream at Petco Park on July 23 at 10 a.m. while supplies last. 

Hello Kitty Cafe Truck 

The Petco Park Interactive zone will host the Hello Kitty Cafe Truck that will offer a variety of Hello Kitty-themed merchandise and treats, including giant Hello Kitty chef cookies and Hello Kitty Macaroons. The pop-up truck will be hosted from July 22- 24 at 100 Park Blvd., San Diego.

Comic-Con Art Show 2022

Artists will gather to showcase their original work from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. July 21-22; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 23; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 24 at Manchester Grand Hyatt, Lobby Level, Grand Hall CD, 1 Market Place, San Diego

Movies will be shown at Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego at 1 Market Pl., San Diego, 4th Floor Sport Terrace, Harbor Tower. 

Spiderman: Beyond Amazing

Explore the history of Spider-Man, from his creation in the early 1960s to his current place as one of the most popular seminal figures. Visitors may walk through interactive installations and expansive set pieces, learn about the many creators who contributed to the hero and discover a number of artifacts. 

The exhibit takes approximately 60 minutes to explore and is open throughout the week. Tickets range from $10 to $30. Click here for more information. 

Dungeons and Dragons Tavern

Based on the popular tabletop role-playing game, patrons will be able to drink some Dragon Brew made by Quincy’s Tavern at a one-of-a-kind tavern experience. According to ING, there will be a 20-minute immersive experience located on the corner of Sixth Avenue and Island Avenue. The Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Tavern Experience will be open to the public on July 21, 12 p.m.-10 p.m., July 22, 10 a.m.-8 p.m., and July 23 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Click here to reserve your spot.
