The Chula Vista Police Department is investigating the death of two people who were found unconscious inside a pick-up after crashing into a parked van.
Officers responded to a 911 call of “shots fired” on Aug.30 at about 7:47 p.m. near Brandywine Avenue and Sequoia Street, according to CVPD Lt. David Oyos. While officers were responding, an additional caller reported hearing a traffic collision in the same area.
According to Lt. Oyos, responding officers discovered a pick-up truck collided with a parked van in the 1600 Block of Brandywine Avenue, and stopped on an embankment alongside the roadway. The driver and the passenger of the pick-up truck were found unconscious with gunshot wounds and other serious injuries.
Police said paramedics transported both people to a local hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries. Evidence was discovered less than a block away at Valle Lindo Park in the 500 Block of Sequoia Street.
“Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears the pick-up truck collided into the parked van while fleeing the scene of the shooting,” said Lt. Oyos in a news release.
The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of relatives. Police say the incident is still under investigation, and the motive for the shooting remains unclear.
