The Chula Vista Police Department on Thursday morning responded to a call of a man waving and pointing a gun toward Lauderbach Elementary, prompting a brief lockdown in the area.
Authorities responded to reports of a man with a gun near Lauderbach Elementary at 390 Palomar St, the department tweeted at 11:36 a.m. School Resource Officers immediately communicated with school staff and coordinated lockdowns, including at the nearby Palomar High School.
According to the CVPD, officers and Drones as First Responders were able to locate the man at the window of a second-story apartment in the adjacent apartment complex. The suspect tossed a black bb gun down to the ground and was detained without further incident after officers made contact and gave commands, according to the CVPD.
The man was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation, according to the Chula Vista Police Department.
The department announced at around 11:59 a.m. that schools were placed back into their normal status, and the area was deemed safe.
No other information has been released about this incident.
