A candlelight vigil and a celebration of life will be held for Chula Vista resident Dante Giancarlo Longo, 24, a south bay soccer player who was in a fatal solo collision in El Cajon. 

The vigil will be held Wednesday evening at Moonlight Beach from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The teammates of Longo organized this event. 

According to El Cajon Police, Longo was found early Sunday morning in the driver's seat of a BMW near the 400 block of Vernon Way. The San Diego County Medical Examiner report said the collision occurred at approximately 3 a.m. when Longo traveled west on Vernon Way, crossed a lane of traffic, and collided with a parked box truck. 

No other information was released.

“He was a light in our community and will be greatly missed, as he touched the lives of many people,” wrote Liesl and Ruben Mestre, organizers of the GoFundMe aimed to support Longo’s family alleviate memorial costs. 

The family of Longo will hold a Celebration of life will be held on Feb.13 at 1:13 p.m. at Otay Ranch High School’s Jose Brosz stadium. The numbers 13 and 1113 were Longo’s numbers, according to organizers. 

“Dante's business colors he was so proud of were white, gray, and yellow, gold. Please feel free to wear these colors in honor of him,” organizers wrote.
