The family of Maya Millete is sponsoring a hike in her honor as this weekend marks two years since she sent missing from her Chula Vista home.

The “Two years too long” hike is planned for Jan.7 at Mount San Miguel Community Park at 9 a.m. near Maya’s Home. The event will take place rain or shine, according to Maricris and Richard Drouaillet.

According to organizers, Maya used to hike at Mount San Miguel Community park.

“Maya had many talents but on January 7, 2023, we are choosing to honor her memory with a walk/hike,” said Keri Park who organized a GoFundMe to help with the hiking event. “Most importantly… this walk/hike is to honor Maya but also to stand in and stand up for women, or ourselves.”

Maya disappeared on Jan 7, 2021, and her husband, Larry Millete, is charged with her murder. Prosecutors say no one has reported seeing May Millete alive after that day, nor has her body been located.

According to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, Millete killed his wife because she sought a divorce.

Larry’s defense attorney previously declared doubt as to his competency to stand trial, but he was later found competent following a doctor's evaluation.

His preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 11 in Downtown San Diego court.
