The Mission Bay Yacht club will illuminate the night sky over Mission Bay with a fireworks show on July 3 after a decade-long absence due to a lack of funding.
The Mission Bay Yacht Club will launch the show at 9 p.m. over a barge in Sail Bay, located between the Mission Bay Yacht Club and Crown Point, followed by a 9:50 p.m. fireworks show put on by SeaWorld San Diego.
The fireworks show put on by the Mission Bay Yacht Club was an annual tradition that began in 1982, but ended 30 years in 2012 due to a lack of funding.
Mission Bay Yacht Club board member Kathryn Dryden organized a fundraiser with the goal of raising $60,000 to secure the proper permits and a barge. As of Saturday, the fundraiser has collected $48,061 from 52 donors.
“As a resident of Crown Point, I know we all miss coming together as a community with our friends and family to enjoy some sparkle in the sky at the end of a fun 4th of July day! Let's come together as a community and bring back the show! Your kids, friends, and beautiful memories will thank you!,” Dryden wrote on the GoFundMe page.
According to event organizers, the best views of the fireworks shows are at the Mission Bay hotels, Bahia Belle sightseeing cruise, SeaWorld San Diego, and spacious public parks along the 27 miles of shoreline.
