With Thanksgiving days away, SBCS, formally known as South Bay Community Services, is hosting their second food drive this month to feed 409 local families in need through partnered shelters, local schools and other programs.

The public is invited to donate food items beginning Nov. 16 through Nov. 18. A bag of food and one turkey will be distributed on Nov. 19 to each family.

A shopping check list consisting of traditional Thanksgiving fixings are available for prospective donors. All food donations must be made at 192 Landis Ave. from 9 a.m to 5 p.m .

“I think it’s a big deal considering we are still at the tail end of COVID-19. There are people who are out of work and people still need food. This will give people the opportunity to have meals during the holidays," SBCS Development Director Cynthia Ybarra said.

As Christmas season steadily approaches, the SBCS will begin to accept donations beginning Nov. 29 for “Hope for the Holidays'', an event held through the month of December. Hundreds of wish lists from youth 18 years and younger in need are received every year by the organization. The SBCS will match prospective donors with families they wish to sponsor based on their budget. In partnership with law firms and other organizations throughout San Diego who will hold  holiday toy drives, SBCS will assemble packages together based on the children’s wish list.

SBCS is a community based non profit organization providing services for children, youth and families throughout San Diego County. Their “Holiday Giving 2021” web page lists different ways local residents can help families in need this holiday season.
