New leads in the search for Lateche Norris lead police to Chula Vista nearly a month after she was last seen.
A surveillance video of Norris, 20 and her boyfriend Joey Smith, 25 was released on Dec.2 by San Diego Police. The surveillance footage was taken at approximately 11:25 p.m on Nov.4 at 7-Eleven store located at 222 Park Blvd in San Diego.
Norris last spoke to her mother, Cheryl Walker, on Nov.5 after a fight with Smith ensued the night before night before. The last phone call Walker received by Norris was through a stranger’s phone.
According to Walker via Facebook, a woman spotted Norris and Smith the night of Nov.4 and said they were heading to Chula Vista. A social media campaign was launched by Norris’ mother where update and tips surrounding the case are shared.
According to Walker, Norris left for San Diego on Nov.1 to be with her boyfriend. Norris’ family made several attempts to reach Smith since Nov.5.
A photo was posted on Smith’s Facebook of the trolley tracks at F street in Chula Vista captioned “Feels good to look forward to riding this train instead of wanting to lay in front of it. Roughest two weeks yet… But Monday has me smiling again.”
In a statement released by the SDPD, Norris was last seen wearing a zippered black hooded sweatshirt over a navy t-shirt, khaki pants, black skater-type shoes with white trim, and was carrying a black and white checkered backpack. Walker describes Norris as 5 feet 8 inches tall and approximately 165 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. According to Walker, Norris has a tattoo of an arrow on her left forearm, a 7-inch blade on her right calf, a dreamcatcher on her left shoulder blade and unknown words on her knuckles.
Smith was last seen wearing a long-sleeve Nike t-shirt with the sleeves rolled up. His shirt has a white Nike “swoosh” in the front center just below the neckline with an apparent unidentified logo just beneath it. He was wearing black or dark blue jeans and the same black, skater-type shoes as Norris. Smith also had a black and gray backpack. Smith has several tattoos on the left side of his neck, down his left arm and hand, and on both legs. He is described as a 25-year-old male with brown hair, hazel eyes, 6’0”, and about 185 lbs.
