Authorities identified a 30-year-old woman incarcerated at a San Diego Detention Facility as a suspect in the murder of an East County woman whose body was discovered in Bonita.

Evalyn Janet Lemus allegedly gunned down 22-year-old Kimberly Gutierrez of La Mesa and left her body near a cul-de-sac at the end of Quarry Road in Bonita, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

According to Lt. Thomas Seiver, a deputy on patrol found Gutierrez near Sweetwater Summit Regional Park shortly after 3 a.m. Oct. 20. The Medical Examiner’s Office reported the woman died of “multiple gunshot wounds” last year.

Seiver said it is “extremely rare for a deputy on duty to find a body on patrol.

Lemus has been in custody since early November on drug charges. Authorities have not disclosed what information led detectives to identify Lermus as the suspected killer.

“The circumstances and motivations in this case are still under investigation,'' Seiver said Monday morning.

Lemus was being held without bail at Las Colinas women's jail in Santee pending trial.
