An inmate from Las Colinas Women’s Jail passed away at a hospital this week after Sheriff’s deputies found her unresponsive in the cell, authorities announced today.

On July 8, Vianna Granillo was arrested just before 10 a.m. for violating a court order. She was transferred from the Vista Detention Facility to the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility in Santee just before 5:30 p.m, according to the Sheriff’s Homicide Unit Lt. Chris Steffen.

Deputies conducting a safety check found Granillo unresponsive in her cell on July 12 just after 2 a.m. After authorities performed lifesaving measures, including administering Naloxone, a medication to reverse the damaging effects of opioids, Granillo was transported to the hospital for further treatment.

“Despite ongoing care and treatment from the hospital, Miss Granillo's health continued to decline,” Steffen wrote in a news release.

Granillo was pronounced dead on July 13, just before 3:00 a.m.

Department officials said the cause and manner of death are still under investigation. A sheriff’s family liaison officer has been assigned, and the family has been notified of her death.

An autopsy is scheduled for July 14.
