A 52-year-old man was arrested Thursday morning for the unprovoked attack and attempted murder of a teenage girl at a Chula Vista bus stop.

San Diego Metropolitan Transit System Officers arrested Antwan Baker at 12th Street and Imperial Avenue in San Diego. He was booked into San Diego County jail for the Dec.13 attack and attempted murder of a 17-year-old girl in Chula Vista.

Chula Vista Police received a call at around 8:08 a.m. from a female saying her throat had been cut by a stranger who fled on foot in the 500 Block of Broadway, according to CVPD Sgt. Anthony Molina. Officers responded immediately and were able to locate a 17-year-old female at the bus stop near the southwest corner of the intersection at Broadway and H Street with significant cuts to her neck.

According to Sgt. Molina, the victim was treated at a nearby hospital and is at home recovering with her family.

The teenager told officers that the unknown man came up to her from behind and grabbed her head and reached around her neck to cut her throat with a sharp object. She described the assailant to be around 50 or 60 years of age, Hispanic or black, and wearing a dark jacket.

Officers conducted a search in the area and the surrounding neighborhood for the suspect and alerted surrounding law enforcement. Nearby businesses and community members partnered in an effort to gather evidence and apprehend the suspect.

San Diego MTS officials aided by providing video evidence, which Chula Vista Police said was crucial in the search.

Authorities are still seeking witnesses and information related to this investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact San Diego  County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or submit a tip via P3tips (online or mobile application) if they wish to remain anonymous.
