A Chula Vista man was arrested on suspicion of murder from a July 4th shooting last year that killed a 19-year old woman.

Giovanny Rodriguez, 21, was sentenced on Friday to 10 years in state prison. He plead guilty earlier this year to voluntary manslaughter and an allegation of using a firearm in the death of Bonita resident Janessa Del Valle, who was shot about 7:40 p.m, and died shortly upon arrival to the hospital.

An arrest was made late last year when Rodriguez has initially been charged with murder in the case.

The shooting occurred just after a fight broke out between several women in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 5100 block of Cedarwood Road, San Diego County sheriff’s Lt. Thomas Seiver said last year.

A GoFundMe page was organized by family members with a the goal of $20,000 to cover funeral expenses. It currently had $14,923 and 230 donors.
