A man walked into a Chula Vista hospital Thursday evening suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. 

Authorities announced on Friday a 33-year-old man walked into Scripps Mercy Hospital in Chula Vista, located on 435 H St. around 11:30 p.m. with wounds to his torso and his right armpit. 

The man told hospital officials he had been shot in the South Bay neighborhood of Nestor, according to the San Diego Police Department.

According to police, the man struggled to breathe and was unable to give a detailed statement. He was rushed to the UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest where he underwent surgery for his injuries.
