California Coast Credit Union partnered with San Diego Food Bank to work with community colleges throughout San Diego County for their fourth annual virtual Pack the Pantry Food Drive.

The food drive runs through November and aims to help local students who are facing food insecurity. Nearly 50% of college students in San Diego face food insecurity, according to organizers.

“We do not want students worrying about where their next meal is coming from,” said California Coast President and CEO Todd Lane in a statement.” We’ve had partnerships with local community colleges for many years doing financial wellness. While we’re doing that financial wellness, we see students that are grappling with food insecurities.”

Six community college districts are participating. Member colleges include Cuyamaca College, Grossmont College, Imperial Valley College, MiraCosta College, Palomar College, San Diego City College, San Diego Mesa College, San Diego Miramar College, San Diego Continuing Education, and Southwestern College.

“We need to get more businesses and individuals involved. Not just Cal Coast members, but the entire community,” Lane said in a statement.

Community members who would like to make donations online may visit calcoastcu.org/packthepantry. Donors can select which college’s food pantry to support.

For every $1 donated, 2 meals can be provided to a college student in need, according to the San Diego Food Bank.
