A driver fatally struck a man that attempted to cross northbound Interstate 5 in Chula Vista early Thursday morning.
The California Highway Patrol said it responded to the crash at approximately 3 a.m. north of Main Street in Chula Vista after the man walked on the lanes of traffic. An UBER/Lyft driver struck the man as he attempted to cross toward the other side of the highway.
According to CHP, the driver pulled over onto the right shoulder and waited for first responders to arrive.
"The pedestrian was struck by an additional unknown number of vehicles and suffered fatal injuries," CHP says.
Authorities have not reported additional injuries as a result of the collision. Drugs and alcohol have been ruled out as possible factors.
The deceased person's name is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.
