A motorcyclist died late Saturday afternoon after rear-ending an SUV south of Orange Avenue on southbound Interstate 805, the California Highway Patrol announced. 

According to CHP officer Jessie Matias, a 36-year-old man was thrown off his Kawasaki motorcycle after colliding with a blue Nissan SUV.

The man died before being transported to the hospital. Authorities are withholding the man's name pending family notification. 

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported the man was a resident of National City. 

Authorities have not yet determined whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
