San Diego County's Health and Human Services Agency in partnership with the county Aging and Independence Services will offer free in-person Tai Chi classes in Chula Vista, among several other locations.

The agency will host several Tai Chi classes in partnership with host sites, and the County’s Health and Human Services Agency. In Chula Vista, classes begin on Sept. 20 at the St. John’s Episcopal Church at 760 1st Avenue from 2 p.m. through 3 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday.

Chula Vista residents of all ability levels may participate in the Thai Chi Moving for Better Balance (TCMBB) curriculum, an evidence-based fall prevention program derived from a contemporary routine known as Simplified 24-Form Tai Ji Quan. Health outcomes include improved balance, leg strength, physical performance, and reduced falls.

TCMBB is a 24-week program that meets up to three times a week.

Tai Chi is an evidence-based fall prevention program that utilizes the Sun style of tai chi. According to county, the health outcomes of Tai Chi include improved relaxation, balance, and strength as well as reduced pain and falls.

See the county’s Aging and Independent Services Tai Chi Schedule of classes to view other locations and times that are offered throughout the region.
