The San Diego County Office of Education will host a drive-thru event to give families laptops and desktop computers at a low cost.
The computers will be pre-loaded with educational software for as little as $100 at a drive-through event on Sept. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon in collaboration with Computers 2 Kids. The event will take place at the SDCOE main campus, 6401 Linda Vista Road in San Diego.
The computers include Windows 10 and Microsoft Office 2019 as well as antivirus and education-related software. Families will also find opportunities to sign up for internet access.
Families interested in attaining a laptop or desktop computer are asked to register by Sept. 10. According to the SDCOE, Walk-ups will also be accommodated if possible.
"This is a great partnership that helps SDCOE in its ongoing equity work to make sure every student has the opportunity and access to thrive," said Dr. Paul Gothold, San Diego County superintendent of schools.
Debit and credit cards will be accepted along with cash, according to event organizers.
