The San Diego Association of Governments is looking for up to 125 San Diego County residents who would like to participate in a new E-Bike Pilot Program that aims to reduce car riders for neighborhood trips, decrease carbon emissions, and better connect to regional transit options.
Each participant will be provided with a pedal-assist e-bike in exchange for fulfilling program requirements: riding a minimum number of 100 miles per month over two years, recording trips, and sharing regular feedback about their experiences. SANDAG partnered with Pedal Ahead to launch this pilot program.
The e-bike aids when pedaling and stops assisting upon reaching 20 mph. Pilot participants will be encouraged to use e-bikes to get to work, school, shopping, and recreational destinations.
According to SANDAG, users will receive ongoing support through personalized onboarding, e-bike education, safety training, e-bike tune-ups, and routine maintenance support. After the successful completion of the pilot, participants will be offered ownership of the e-bike.
Applicants must be 18 years or older and a resident of San Diego County. According to SANDAG, priority will be given to individuals who earn an annual income of $50,000 or below.
