The San Diego County Office of Education partnered with Computers 2 Kids to provide families in South county with free laptop and desktop computers.

Families can attain the technology for as little as $100 during a drive-through event on Dec.3 from 9 a.m. to noon at Chula Vista High School, located at 820 Fourth Ave. Debit and credit cards will be accepted along with Cash.

"This is a great partnership that helps SDCOE in its ongoing work to make sure every student has the opportunity and access to thriving," said Dr. Paul Gothold, San Diego County superintendent of schools.

Those who wish to participate are asked to register by Nov. 3 to lock in a spot. Walk-ups will also be accommodated if possible, according to organizers.

The computers will be equipped with Windows 10 and Microsoft Office 2019 as well as antivirus and education-related software. Families may also find an opportunity to sign up for internet access.

According to the San Diego County office of education, thousands of families have received computers through their partnership with Computers 2 Kids. The nonprofit organization has been distributing computers to low-income families since 2004 to help close the digital divide between those who have access to technology and those who don’t.
