Northbound State Route 125 will be temporarily closed in January as construction crews install and test new tolling equipment, the San Diego Association of Governments announced.
The closure is scheduled from 8 a.m. on Jan. 3 through 6 a.m. Jan. 28 in the northbound SR 125 on-ramp from westbound H Street in Chula Vista. Westbound trafficwill be routed to U-turn at Eastlake Drive and proceed onto the northbound SR 125 loop on-ramp, according to SANDAG.
The region’s transportation agency said this installation of new tolling equipment is one of the steps to enhance technology along the SR 125 Toll Road and 1-15 Express Lanes. The closure will reopen if work progresses ahead of schedule, according to SANDAG.
“Closing lanes and diverting traffic allows crews to safely complete work throughout the length of the project. Detour signage will be in place to guide motorists around the closure,” SANDAG wrote in a construction notice.
SANDAG began upgrading tolling equipment on SR 125 in late 2021 and anticipates completion by the end of 2023. New roadway equipment was previously installed on the I-15 Express Lanes in 2021.
