Authorities announced the arrest of a man suspected of a fatal hit-and-run crash last year that killed a bicyclist in the Otay Mesa West neighborhood.
According to the San Diego Police Department, 51-year-old Fernando Salazar was identified as a suspect and stopped by officers while crossing northbound at the San Ysidro Port of Entry Monday around 10 a.m.
He was booked into the San Diego County Jail then arrested on suspicion of murder, according to San Diego police Lt. Jud Campbell.
A cal was reported on Nov. 25, 2021, of a possible hit-and-run around 11:29 a.m regarding a possible hit-and-run collision involving a bicycle at 3700 Arey Drive.
Officers found the victim later identified as 40-year-old Octavio Mendoza, injured next to a bicycle upon arriving at the scene. According to authorities, the victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said homicide detectives determined the collision was an intentional act and is being investigated as a homicide.
