A Chula Vista man suspected of fatally shooting another man last week was identified as Martin Morales, 48, was arrested on Dec.1 at the U.S-Mexico line in Otay Mesa. 

According to Chula Vista Police Department Lt. Dan Peak, Morales was taken into custody with the assistance of U.S Customs and Border Protections while attempting to enter the United States. He was booked into San Diego Central Jail for the suspected murder of 54 year of Alberto Marquez. 

On Nov.26 at approximately 1:36 p.m, CVPD officers were notified of a shooting inside the residence located on the 900 block of Agua Tibia Avenue in Chula Vista. Authorities found Marquez suffering a gunshot wound. Detectives later learned Morales had fled the area after the shooting according to Peak. It is also believed both Marquez and Morales knew each other prior to the shooting. 

After paramedics performed life-saving measures, Marquez was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
