Authorities arrested 34-year-old man on Monday at the San Ysidro Port of Entry on suspicion of fatally shooting a man in an Imperial Beach alley.
Jesus Manuel Rodriguez is suspected of gunning down 45-year-old Shelby Dorris Jr. in the 800 block of Georgia Street in Imperial Beach on Jan. 30, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
Dorris, an Imperial Beach Resident, was shot once and died at the scene. Deputies responded to a report of gunfire at about 3 a.m. and found Dorris dead on an access road just south of Palm Avenue and west of Interstate 5, according to Lt. Chris Steffen.
The series of events that authorities believe led up to the shooting remains unknown. Authorities identified Rodriguez as the suspect “shortly after the shooting” and sought a warrant for his arrest, Steffen said in a news release.
According to Steffen, a local fugitive task force arrested Rodriguez on Monday “in collaboration with Mexican Authorities”.
Rodriguez is being held at the San Diego Central Jail on a $2 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.
