A GoFundMe has been set up for the family of a 17 year-old-boy who was fatally stabbed at a weekend Chula Vista house party.
Mateo Alexander Castillo, a Vallhalla High School senior, was identified as the victim. A fight broke out in the early hours of Nov. 12 during a house party in the 900 block of Rigley Street left one dead and two others injured, according to the Chula Vista Police Department.
Castillo suffered stab wounds to the torso and was assisted by several others at the party in an attempt to save him. Despite lifesaving efforts in the home by paramedics, Castillo was pronounced deceased.
Jesica Benitez organized a GoFundMe on behalf of the victim’s family to help with the unexpected costs of a funeral and memorial services. The fundraiser was created on Nov. 14, and has earned $8,855 from 71 donors as of Nov. 16. The goal is to reach $15,000.
“Police believe there are several witnesses with pertinent information who fled the scene prior to officers arriving and that there is likely cellphone video or photos that can greatly assist with this investigation. They are asking witnesses for their help to identify the suspects in this case as well as provide any information that could be useful in the investigation,” said CVPD Sgt. Anthony Molina.
