The city of Chula Vista received two awards for its annual budget and financial reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).
The GFOA, headquartered in downtown Chicago, is a professional of approximately 19,000 states, provincial, and local government finance officers in the United States and Canada. The city received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting granted for the City’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2021, and the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its Annual Budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2022.
“We are very pleased to receive this recognition on the City’s finances,” said Chula Vista Mayor Mary Casillas Salas. “I am proud of our commitment to balancing our budget and maintaining a strong financial foundation.”
The city’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report was judged by a panel of impartial professionals who based their evaluations on the high reporting standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
According to city officials, the Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management staff.
“This award acknowledges our sound fiscal and accounting practices,” stated Finance Director Sarah Schoen. “The City of Chula Vista continues to approve a balanced General Fund annual budget where total expected revenues are equal to total planned spending.”
Chula Vista’s Annual Budget received the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation award after satisfying nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. According to city staff, this award “reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting”
The city has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award 19 times.
