The San Diego police gang division is investigating Thursday an incident in which unknown assailants shot from a moving car, injuring three people near the Northgate Market on University Ave.

One of the injured is a security employee at the El Cerrito neighborhood shopping center.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. Wednesday.

San Diego Police Officer Robert Helms said eyewitness accounts said a group of men was arguing with people inside a vehicle in the mall's parking lot.

Suddenly the driver of the vehicle started while the men who were arguing ran to seek refuge in nearby businesses.

The vehicle moved several times, and shots were fired from inside, the officer said, before fleeing the mall.

Moments later, police and emergency crews arrived and treated the security guard and the other two injured people.

The authorities did not make any arrests, but the police gang team found out the attackers' identities.
