Southwestern College’s Medical Assisting program and Licensed Vocational Nursing program received state and local recognition for academic rigor and their focus on student success.
San Diego Regional Economic Development Corp. named the college’s Medical Assisting Program as one of five Advancing San Diego’s Preferred Provider Partners. A one-time grant funded internship was awarded to the program by the San Diego Regional EDC. The internship will pay 30 students $20 an hour up to 240 hours with a $500 stipend.
The Nursing Schools Almanac ranked the college’s Licensed Vocational Nursing program at the top 100 in California, alongside well known programs such as Riverside City College and American Career College. Over 3,000 nursing schools and campuses nationwide were surveyed and assessed on three dimensions.
The institution’s academic prestige and perceived value, the breadth and depth of offered nursing programs and student success, particularly on the national NCLEX exam contributes to a program’s ranking according to the Nursing Schools Almanac. This year, Southwestern LVN graduates earned a 93 percent pass rate on the NCLEX exam.
