Authorities rescued two pit bulls on Saturday afternoon from a stolen vehicle that was spotted in Chula Vista.

A male suspect stole the vehicle from National City at around 11:30 a.m., according to OnScene T.V. When National City Police officers attempted to pull the driver over, the suspect fled into a residential neighborhood at high speed, ultimately losing the driver in the eastern part of the city.

Authorities then called the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office’s ASTREA helicopter to assist in the search. The search was later called off and an alert was sent to all police agencies to be on alert for the vehicle.

Chula Vista Police Dispatchers received a call at around 5:15 p.m. from a resident reporting a man sitting in their driveway in a car with two dogs. When officers responded to the call, the man took off and the officers attempted to pull the suspect over.

The man was eventually pulled over on E street, where he surrendered to authorities. He was taken into custody and Chula Vista Animal Control was called for the two dogs.

No injuries were reported in this incident.
