An unidentified driver was hospitalized early Wednesday morning after driving off a freeway in Chula Vista and went off-road near the Sweetwater River.
The California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a vehicle that had driven down an embankment eastbound state Route 54 and west of Interstate 805 at around 4 a.m.
In an effort to rescue the driver, emergency responders used 150 feet of cable to reach the driver and the vehicle. Emergency responders transported the driver to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Chula Vista in an unknown condition.
No other information was immediately available.
