The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department arrested a 35-year-old man suspected of fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend at a Bonita apartment complex.
Sheriffs deputies with the Imperial Beach Sheriffs Station responded to a report of a stabbing in the 3100 block of Bonita Road on Sunday, where they found 40-year-old Aylmer Navarrete shortly before 5 a.m. with stab wounds to his upper torso. Paramedics with the Bonita-Sunnyside Fire Protection District attempted life-saving measures, but he succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities identified 35-year-old Ulises Gutierrez as the suspect, and the ex-boyfriend of Navarrete’s girlfriend. The San Diego Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Gutierrez just after 12 p.m. in the 3800 block of Cherokee Avenue in Cherokee Point within the City of San Diego.
Gutierrez was booked into the San Diego Central Jail for one count of murder. Authorities said the circumstances and the motive of the attack remains under investigation.
