A single-vehicle collision Thursday morning in East County killed a Chula Vista man after the impact of hitting a tree caused the driver to eject from the vehicle.
The California Highway Patrol said the collision occurred just after 9:20 a.m., in Rancho San Diego near Campbell Lane.
The 42-year-old victim drove his Dodge Challenger eastbound on Willow Glen Drive. According to authorities, the man “failed to negotiate the curve in the roadway and traveled off the road edge".
The CHP said the Dodge veered off the road, struck a tree, and the impact ejected the driver from the vehicle.
The Chula Vista man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators are determining if the driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and whether he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
