Monday is the deadline to register for those who want to vote by mail in the special election on April 5 in District 80, including parts of Chula Vista, National City, and San Diego.
People who are not registered to vote from home, and wish to participate in the election will have to go in person to the county voter registration in Kearny Mesa or at one of five voting centers.
Registration can also be done online at sdvote.com
The candidates for the district are two Democrats, David Alvarez and Georgette Gomez, and Republican Lincoln Pickard.
In the special election, the candidates seek to replace outgoing Assemblywoman Lorena González, who left that legislative post to assume the presidency of the California Labor Federation.
The candidate who wins the election will represent District 80 for the remainder of González's legislative term until next December. Up to 250,000 ballots will arrive by mail in the special election.
Five vote centers for this election will be open from March 26 to April 5 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On April 5, the day of the election, nine centers will be available, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The addresses for those centers are available online at sdvote.com
