Attention California homeowners, you may be eligible for mortgage assistance.

Assemblywoman Dr. Akilah Weber of the 79th District announced a new billion-dollar funding program Monday to help homeowners with delinquent payments.

Weber estimates that the plan could help about 40,000 homeowners with missed mortgage payments.

"The California Mortgage Relief Plan is committed to supporting those hit hardest by the pandemic, including homeowners who have fallen behind on their housing payments," Weber said.

She added that the program would help homeowners make past due housing payments-to a maximum of $80,000 per household by making a one-time direct payment to the mortgage services.

The website for the program says that "California Mortgage Assistance uses Federal Homeowner Assistance Funds to help homeowners catch up on their home payments. The program is free, and there is no need to repay the funds.

The program is open to all eligible Californians experiencing pandemic-related hardship who have fallen behind on their housing payments.

There are four requirements to receive that help:

Family income at or below 100 percent of your county area median income; that you missed at least two mortgage payments before December 27, 2021; own a permanently affixed single-family home, condominium, or manufactured home; and faced financial difficulties related to the pandemic after January 21, 2020.

On April 26, from 6-7 pm, Assemblywoman Weber will lead a webinar to provide more details. To register, visit https://a79.asmdc.org/mortgage_relief .
