Many residents in Chula Vista have received a brochure about the electricity service generated only from alternative sources that will be available at the beginning of May.

San Diego Community Power (SDCP) is a California nonprofit utility agency available to Chula Vista residents. The company offers affordable rates that are at least two percent cheaper than San Diego Gas and Electric (SDGE) and commits to reviewing prices to the public annually.

The company announced that "SDCP customers are eligible for the California Climate Credit, which includes $128.34 in bill credits for the electricity portion of your bill in August and September."

"SDCP is a locally run nonprofit public agency that is now your new electric generation service provider. We buy renewable energy, such as solar and wind, and feed it into the power grid, working with SDG&E to deliver it to you at competitive prices," SDCP reported.

According to SDCP, renewable and cleaner solar and wind energy at competitive prices supports healthier communities. The company said community representatives "put people, transparency, and our communities first."

The company said its services are a "reinvestment of income in the communities we serve. Support for local job creation and development of renewable energy projects close to home".

Services provided by SDCP are an "adapted energy program to meet our communities' needs and help achieve our climate action goals," SDCP said.

The community agency offers the option that customers who try their service and want to cancel it can return to the supply of SDGE.

The energy supplied by SDCP will use the SDGE supply network.

SDCP expects to supply power to about 770,000 consumers in Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, La Mesa, Encinitas, and San Diego.

SDGE has controlled the energy market in the county for more than a century.
