The commercial building that formally housed Anthony’s Fish Grotto early was reported in a blaze early Thursday morning.

The fire heavily damaged the commercial building on 215 Bay Blvd. Chula Vista Fire Battalion Chief Brendan Barahura told OnScene.TV that the fire sparked outside the building and spread through the structure around 3 a.m.

A large amount of trash was found surrounding the property. Authorities believe some of the trash was on fire at the blaze’s point of origin.

No injuries were reported, and authorities have not identified the cause of the blaze.

Anthony’s Fish Grotto in Chula Vista closed its doors on March 20, 2011, after 37 years of serving the South Bay community, as reported by the San Diego Union-Tribune. The seafood restaurant closed due to declining revenue despite efforts to reduce costs and maximize site use.

The seafood restaurant chain closed its location on San Diego’s Bayfront at North Embarcadero in January 2017 after 70 years of operation, according to Eater San Diego.

The company remains in operation in La Mesa.
