Southwestern College invites community members to “peek behind the curtain” with a special tour of the new performing arts center.
Southwestern students and faculty will talk about the latest projects at the new state-of-the-art performing arts center on Aug.10 at 8 a.m. In March, the college demolished Mayan Hall, which has served as a hub for performing arts since its construction in 1969.
According to college officials, the $66 million performing arts center replaces Mayan Hall, serving the community through “enriching student-centered events to inspire all to be their most expressive version of themselves.
The performing arts center will also serve as a venue for performances by the San Diego Symphony, and public speaking engagements. The 41,000-square-foot state-of-the-art building houses hold an auditorium theatre with seats for more than 500 people and a smaller black box space.
The space is also filled with classrooms and modern dance studios.
