U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers on Wednesday seized $2 million worth of cocaine inside a vehicle attempting to enter the United States through the San Ysidro Port of Entry.
A 31-year-old man driving of a Volkswagen attempted to enter the United States through the San Ysidro Port of Entry on Jan.4 at approximately 12:40 p.m. when CBP officers noticed inconsistencies with the vehicle. Upon secondary expectation, officers detected anomalies between the rear seat and the trunk area after an x-ray examination.
After further inspection, officers extracted 50 packages of cocaine concealed in a non-factory compartment in the vehicle. According to authorities, the packages weighed nearly 132 pounds and had an estimated street value of $2,093,700.
“This seizure shows the tremendous commitment and dedication our officers have in protecting our nation’s borders,” said Jennifer De La O, CBP Director of Field Operations in San Diego.
The man was taken into custody and officers seized the vehicle and narcotics.
